Art Academies

WEEK 1 (June 26-June 30)

Marine Art & Exploration Through various arts and crafts projects, campers will be given the opportunity to express a love and understanding of the varied and stunning marine world which surrounds us. Painting, drawing, the use of gathered materials, and other crafty projects, in conjunction with class presentation, video, and extensive field exploration will help campers combine a love for science, art, and marine life in the type of experience that lifelong memories are made of. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.

 

WEEK 2 (July 3-July 7)

Ichthyology: Love learning about fish? This academy will give in-depth details about numerous species of both freshwater and saltwater fish. Topics will include structure and morphology, biology and behavior. We’ll learn how and when it’s best to fish in local waters and what you may find here. Tips for fishing locations and tackle and bait to use will be discussed. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.

 

WEEK 3 (July 10-July 14)

Drawing & Painting: Campers will paint masterpieces using techniques with gel mediums, shaving cream, wax paper and tape in ways you would never think of! They will also hone in on technical drawing skills through still-life, self-portraits, and photographs. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.                                                                              

 

WEEK 4 (July 17-July 21)

Art & the Environment: For the budding artist or environmentally conscious camper who wishes to explore how art can come directly from nature. We’ll collect our own art supplies in nature (shells, pinecones, leaves, feathers) as we discuss why we need to preserve the planet. A variety of take-home projects will be offered: dream catchers, mobiles, wind & sound sculptures, and gifts from nature. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.  

3D Animation & Design (Part 1): This course is designed to introduce the 4 phases of 3D, Modeling, Animating, Texturing and Rendering. Campers will learn how to model and animate their own designs and will be introduced to the technical and artistic concepts and techniques for 3D modeling and animating. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade. *Prerequisite: Video Game Design (Part 2)

 

WEEK 5 (July 24-July 28)

Landfill Harmonics: Campers will make beautiful music with instruments that they design and build using recycled material. Campers will learn the importance of taking care of the environment and how they can reuse many items that usually end up in a landfill.  Open to Campers entering 2nd-6th grade

Studio Art: Campers of all ages will explore a variety of painting techniques and styles. We’ll try watercolors and tempera paints for the studio painting. Pastels study will teach methods and short cuts to enhance the finished product. In addition, we’ll create a collaborative piece that campers will work on together. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.

3D Animation & Design (part 2): A continuation of GBA-3-D Modeling & Animation (Part 1). Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade. *Prerequisite: 3D Animation & Design (Part 1)

 

WEEK 6 (July 31- August 4)

Star Wars Stop Motion: From a Galaxy far far away, to a summer location near you... Create your very own Star Wars characters and bring them to life using the magic of Stop Motion Animation. Students will create characters and sets for an original Star Wars movie they storyboard, write, shoot, and voice-over in age-appropriate groups. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.

Stop Motion Tricks & Effects: Begin your stop motion movie making career with a BANG! Ever wonder how they do that cool effect?” - We can teach you! In this program we pull back the curtain and reveal how stop-motion movie magic is made as kids will learn how to create special effects for their stop motion movies. Kids will work in groups to create and film effects from water to fire or even flying! Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.

 

WEEK 7 (August 7-August 11)

Media Arts: A perfect introduction to art in the digital world.  Campers will use technology to design, edit and credit works of art.  Topics that will be covered in this academy include digital audio, computer graphics, video production and photography. Open to Campers entering 4th-8th grade.

 

WEEK 8 (August 14-August 18)

WEEK 9 (August 21-August 25)

If you Build it… In this academy, campers will construct 2-D and 3-D art with a variety of materials including plaster, wood, tile and cement to name a few! Projects that will make any garden or home something to talk about!  Campers will work together and separately to collaborate on different projects throughout the week. Campers will also learn the basics of construction and proper measure to ensure quality work. Open to Campers entering 2nd-8th grade.
